Leasing Specialist Job Requirements
Leasing Specialists are responsible for renting out properties on behalf of their clients. They typically work in the real estate industry, and their job duties include showing properties to potential tenants, negotiating leases, and collecting rent. Leasing Specialists need at least a high school diploma, although some jobs may require postsecondary education, such as an Associate's degree in real estate. Many Leasing Specialists are certified by the National Association of Realtors as a Certified Residential Specialist (CRS). In order to become certified, they must complete a course and pass an exam. Leasing Specialists typically have several years of experience working in the real estate industry.

How to become a Leasing Specialist
Leasing specialists are responsible for the leasing and marketing of commercial, industrial and retail properties. They work with property owners and managers to identify potential tenants, negotiate leases and coordinate move-ins.
To become a leasing specialist, you will need at least a bachelor’s degree in business, real estate or a related field. However, many employers prefer candidates with a master’s degree or higher. You will also need to have strong communication and negotiation skills.
If you have the necessary education and skills, the next step is to find an open position with a property management company or real estate firm. Once you have been hired, you will be responsible for handling all aspects of the leasing process for your assigned properties. This includes advertising vacant units, showing units to prospective tenants, negotiating leases and coordinating move-ins.
With experience, you can eventually move into a management role or start your own leasing and property management company.
