An Equipment Specialist is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all equipment used by a company or organization. This may include machinery, tools, vehicles, and other types of equipment. The Specialist ensures that all equipment is in good working order and compliant with safety regulations. They may also be responsible for training other employees on how to properly use and maintain the equipment.
Equipment Specialist job duties include:
- Inspects equipment to detect faults or malfunctions, using knowledge of mechanical systems.
- Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
- Repairs or replaces defective parts, using hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment.
- Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
- Lubricates and cleans parts.
- Starts devices to test their performance.
- Sets up and operates lathes, drill presses, grinders, welding equipment, and other metalworking tools to make or repair parts.
- Makes sketches or templates to assist in layout work.
- Inspects completed work for conformance to blueprints and specifications.
