Autocad Draftsmen use computer-aided design (CAD) software to create two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) models of physical objects. They work closely with engineers, architects, and other professionals to create detailed plans and drawings of products, buildings, and systems.

Autocad Draftsman job duties include:

  • Convert sketches, drawings, and specifications into 2D or 3D CAD models

There is no one specific path to becoming an AutoCAD draftsman. However, most draftsmen have at least some college education in engineering or architecture, and many have professional certification from Autodesk, the company that produces AutoCAD. In terms of experience, most draftsmen have several years of experience working with AutoCAD, often in a specific industry such as construction or manufacturing.
