How to become a Pharmacy Supervisor
The first step to becoming a pharmacy supervisor is to complete a Pharmacy Technician Training Program. Many community colleges and technical schools offer these programs, which typically take one to two years to complete. After completing a training program, candidates must then pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) administered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
Once certified, pharmacy technicians can begin working towards becoming a supervisor. Many employers require pharmacy technicians to have at least two years of experience before being promoted to supervisor. During this time, technicians can learn about the inner workings of a pharmacy and develop the necessary skills to lead a team. They can also begin to build relationships with other employees and customers, which will be important when they are in a supervisory role.
When ready to take on the responsibilities of a supervisor, candidates should seek out opportunities for leadership within their organization.
