A PC technician is responsible for installing, configuring, and troubleshooting computer hardware and software. They may also be responsible for training users on how to use new hardware and software.

PC Technician job duties include:

  • Providing technical assistance and support for computer systems and users
  • Installing, configuring and troubleshooting computer hardware, software and networks
  • Setting up new user accounts and profiles and dealing with password issues
  • Responding to IT helpdesk calls and resolving problems within set SLAs
  • Diagnosing hardware and software faults and solving them remotely or on-site
  • Monitoring network activity and performance, ensuring that all systems are running smoothly
  • Carrying out regular maintenance checks on computer equipment and systems
  • Updating software and virus protection measures as required
  • Liaising with other members of the IT team, such as network administrators, to resolve issues

Education: A PC Technician should have a high school diploma or equivalent. Certification: A PC Technician should have a valid driver's license and clean driving record. Experience: A PC Technician should have at least 2 years of experience working with computers and networks.

How to become a PC Technician

In order to become a PC Technician, one must first understand what the job entails. A PC Technician is responsible for providing technical support and assistance to computer users. They are also responsible for troubleshooting computer hardware and software problems. In addition, PC Technicians may also be required to install and configure new computer hardware and software.

The first step to becoming a PC Technician is to obtain a high school diploma or equivalent. Although not required, many employers prefer candidates who have completed some form of post-secondary education, such as a certificate or associate’s degree in computer science or a related field. Once you have obtained your high school diploma or equivalent, you can then begin the process of becoming a PC Technician by completing an on-the-job training program or an internship with a computer repair company.

After completing an on-the-job training program or internship, you will then need to obtain certification from an industry-recognized organization, such as the CompTIA A+ Certification. Once you have obtained your certification, you will be able to find employment as a PC Technician with a variety of employers, including computer repair companies, IT departments, and retail stores.
