What does a Pbx Operator do?

A PBX operator is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of private branch exchange systems. PBX operators are also responsible for providing customer support and training on how to use the system.
Pbx Operator job duties include:
- Answer incoming telephone calls and direct them to the appropriate party or take messages
- Route outgoing telephone calls through the PBX system
- Monitor the PBX system for any problems and report them to the appropriate party
- Operate paging systems
- Perform basic troubleshooting of the PBX system
- Keep records of all PBX activity
- Update the PBX system as needed
- Train new users on the PBX system
- Assist with other office duties as needed
Pbx Operator Job Requirements
Most employers prefer candidates who have at least a high school diploma, although some jobs may require postsecondary education, such as completing a vocational program or an associate's degree in business administration or a related field. Many employers also prefer candidates who have certification from the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET). Some jobs may require experience working in a customer service environment.
