What does a Claim Representative do?

A claim representative is responsible for investigating, evaluating, and settling insurance claims. They work with policyholders to determine the extent of coverage and work with claimants to gather evidence and negotiate a settlement.
Claim Representative job duties include:
- Investigate and evaluate insurance claims
- Interview claimants and witnesses to determine the facts of each case

Claim Representative Job Requirements
There are no formal education requirements for a Claim Representative, although many companies prefer candidates with at least a high school diploma or equivalent. Some on-the-job training may be provided, but most Claim Representatives have previous experience working in customer service or a related field. Certification is not required, but Claim Representatives may find it helpful to obtain certification from the American Institute for Property and Liability Underwriters (AICPCU).
