A Manufacturing Project Manager is responsible for the coordination and completion of manufacturing projects. They oversee all aspects of the project, from planning and scheduling to implementation and monitoring.

The Manufacturing Project Manager is responsible for ensuring that all manufacturing projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest possible standard. They will liaise with all relevant parties involved in the project, including suppliers, manufacturers, and customers. In addition, they will be responsible for preparing reports and presentations to update stakeholders on the progress of the project.

Manufacturing Project Manager job duties include:

  • Define project scope, goals and deliverables
  • Develop full-scale project plans and associated communications documents
  • Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion
  • Liaise with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis
  • Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals
  • Draft and submit budget proposals, and recommend subsequent budget changes where necessary
  • Where required, negotiate with other department managers for the acquisition of required personnel from within the company
  • Track project milestones and deliverables
  • Facilitate the definition of project tasks and resource requirements
  • Resolve or escalate project issues in a timely fashion

Manufacturing Project Manager Job Requirements

A bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a related field is typically required for most manufacturing project manager positions. Some employers may prefer candidates who have a master's degree in business administration (MBA) or a master's degree in engineering. Certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI) is also often preferred. Several years of experience working in engineering or manufacturing are typically required as well.
