How to become a Clinical Dietitian
A clinical dietitian is a food and nutrition expert who works with patients to develop individualized meal plans that promote good health. Clinical dietitians typically work in hospitals, clinics or other healthcare settings. Some may also work in research or education.
To become a clinical dietitian, you will need to complete a bachelor’s degree in dietetics, food and nutrition, or a related field. You will also need to complete an accredited internship program. After completing your education and internship, you will need to pass the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) exam administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
Once you have passed the RDN exam, you will be able to work as a clinical dietitian. You will need to keep up with continuing education requirements to maintain your registration. You may also choose to specialize in a particular area of practice, such as diabetes education or sports nutrition.
