How to become an X Ray Technician
There are many ways to become an X Ray Technician. One can attend a two-year college, four-year university, or specialized training program. Many community colleges offer two-year programs that prepare students to take the national certification examination. A four-year degree is not required, but may be beneficial for career advancement. Specialized training programs are available at some hospitals and last six to twelve weeks.
Most X Ray Technician programs include coursework in anatomy and physiology, medical ethics, patient positioning, quality control, and radiation safety. Hands-on experience is gained through clinical rotations in diagnostic imaging departments. Students learn how to operate X ray equipment and perform various imaging procedures. They also gain experience working with patients of all ages.
Upon completion of an X Ray Technician program, graduates must pass a national certification examination.
