A/an unloader is a device that helps to take the weight off of your spine by unloading the vertebrae.

Unloader job duties include:

  • Unload merchandise from inbound trucks and stack them onto pallets or shelves
  • Break down empty boxes and crates, and recycle or dispose of them
  • Use a hand truck or pallet jack to move heavy merchandise
  • Open containers with a box cutter or utility knife
  • Count and inventory merchandise as it comes in
  • Keep track of incoming shipments on a computer or paperwork
  • Report any damaged goods to the supervisor immediately
  • Re-stock shelves or pallets as needed throughout the shift
  • Help load outbound trucks when necessary

Unloader Job Requirements

Most employers prefer applicants with a high school diploma or equivalent, although some jobs may require postsecondary education, such as a certificate from a vocational program. Many employers also provide on-the-job training to new hires. Some positions may require certification from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Prior experience is not always necessary.

How to become an Unloader

You will also need to have a clean driving record and be able to pass a background check. Once you have met these requirements, you can apply for a job with a company that specializes in forklift unloading.
