What does an MRI Technician do?

A/An MRI Technician is a medical professional who uses magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines to take pictures of the inside of patients' bodies. They work closely with radiologists to ensure that the images are of high quality and provide valuable information for diagnosis and treatment.
MRI Technician job duties include:
- Prepare patients for MRI procedures and provide them with instructions
- Position patients on the MRI scanning table and enter specific information into the machine
- Monitor patients during MRI procedures to ensure their safety and comfort
- Explain the MRI procedure to patients to help them feel relaxed and cooperative
- Acquire high-quality images of the area of the body being examined
- Work closely with radiologists to ensure that all images meet their standards
- Maintain MR equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications
- Keep detailed records of all procedures performed
- Assist in training new MRI technicians
- Adhere to all safety protocols
MRI Technician Job Requirements
To be an MRI Technician, one must have at least an Associate’s degree in Radiologic Technology, although most employers prefer a Bachelor’s degree. Certification is also required and can be obtained through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Experience is not always required, but it is preferred.
