- Study technical manuals, blueprints, and other materials to learn about electrical systems.
- Inspect completed installations and observe operations, to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards.
- Plan new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide for effective utilization of space and equipment, and prevent overcrowding and hazardous conditions.
- Develop maintenance schedules and provide technical guidance to industrial maintenance crews.
- Investigate complaints received from customers or others to determine the cause of the problem and take corrective action.
- Prepare cost estimates for materials, equipment, or labor to determine feasibility of projects.
- Prepare specifications for purchase of electrical equipment and material.
- Review contractor’s bids and make recommendations, based on factors such as cost, time required, or appropriateness of the contractor’s qualifications.
- Confer with architects, engineers, programmers, technicians, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects and products.
