An Assembler is a person who puts together products or components by hand.
Assembler job duties include:
- Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and engineering drawings to determine materials required and assembly instructions
- Cut, shape, and smooth lumber and other material according to measurements
- Erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level
- Align and fit parts according to specifications, using jacks, clamps, hand tools, power tools, or machinery
- Join parts with bolts, screws, rivets, welds, or adhesives
- Install subassemblies such as motors, transmissions, brakes, control linkages, fuel tanks, batteries, and lighting fixtures
- Position and secure parts and assemblies using hand tools, power tools, cranes, hoists or dollies
- Connect wiring to complete electrical circuits
- Test functionality of assembled components
Assembler Job Requirements
Most assemblers have a high school diploma or equivalent, although some jobs may require postsecondary education, and most assemblers receive on-the-job training. Some jobs may require certification, such as Forklift Operator Certification. Assemblers typically have at least one year of experience in the manufacturing field.
