What does a Wind Technician do?

A wind technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of wind turbines. They may also be responsible for conducting inspections and performing preventative maintenance on the turbines.

How to become a Wind Technician
In order to become a Wind Technician, one must first complete an accredited training program. There are many different types of programs available, but most will require the completion of a high school diploma or equivalent. After completing a training program, the next step is to obtain a certification from the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA). The AWEA offers two different types of certification: the Certified Wind Technician (CWT) and the Journeyman Wind Technician (JWT). To become a CWT, one must pass an examination that covers topics such as safety, electrical theory, and turbine maintenance. To become a JWT, one must have at least two years of experience working as a CWT and must pass an examination that covers more advanced topics such as project management and wind farm operations.
