A telecom engineer is responsible for designing, installing, and maintaining telecommunications systems. They may work with telephone, cable, and Internet systems.

Telecom Engineer job duties include:

Telecom Engineer Job Requirements

Telecom engineers typically have a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field. They may also have a master's degree or PhD. In addition, telecom engineers must have a professional engineer (PE) license. To obtain a PE license, engineers must pass two exams administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). The first exam is the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, which is taken after earning a bachelor's degree. The second exam is the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PPE) exam, which is taken after completing four years of professional experience.
