What does a Senior Quality Engineer do?

A Senior Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that products meet or exceed customer expectations. - Investigates root causes of failures to determine causes of non-conformance with product specifications, using knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling and materials
- Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability
- Coordinates the set-up of inspection sampling plans, procedures and statistical techniques designed to ensure that manufactured products conform to specifications
- Works with engineering staff in conducting failure analysis investigations of returned product; recommends corrective action based on findings
- Develops or directs workers engaged in measuring and testing product and tabulating data concerning materials, product, or process quality and reliability
Senior Quality Engineer Job Requirements
A Senior Quality Engineer typically has a bachelor's degree in engineering, although some employers may prefer a master's degree. They must have at least five years of experience in quality engineering, and they must be certified by the American Society for Quality (ASQ). They should have knowledge of statistical analysis and quality control methods, as well as experience leading quality improvement projects.
