A pressman is a person who operates a printing press.
Pressman job duties include:
- Reads job order to determine printing specifications and advises press crew.
- Mounts plates and blankets on press cylinders, according to specifications.
- Adjusts press controls to regulate pressure, speed, alignment, color registration, and density of printing.
- Inspects printed products for conformance to specifications, and directs workers to make necessary adjustments.
- Cleans press parts, using solvents, brushes, rags, and airhose.
- Lubricates presses, using grease gun and oilcan.
- Mixes inks according to color formula or job order.
- Starts press and observes its operation to detect malfunctions or defects in printing.
- May repair or replace damaged press parts.
- May operate auxiliary equipment, such as power-driven paper cutters and automatic plate changers.
Pressman Job Requirements
A Pressman is responsible for the operation of a printing press. They must have a high school diploma or equivalent, as well as on-the-job training. Some employers may require certification from a trade school or apprenticeship program. Pressmen typically have several years of experience in the printing industry.

How to become a Pressman
