A baggage handler is responsible for loading and unloading luggage onto planes. They must be careful not to damage any of the luggage, as it is all valuable to somebody.
Baggage Handler job duties include:
- Unload luggage from aircrafts and transport it to the baggage claim area
- Sort luggage according to destination
- Load luggage onto carts and transport it to the appropriate area
- Scan luggage tags and match them with passenger names
- Weigh and tag each piece of luggage
- Operate machinery to load and unload luggage
- Keep track of lost or misplaced luggage
- Answer passengers’ questions about their luggage
- Handle fragile or delicate items with care
Baggage Handler Job Requirements
There are no formal education requirements for baggage handlers, but most employers prefer candidates with a high school diploma or equivalent. Certification is not required, but many employers prefer candidates who have completed a training program. Experience is not required, but it is helpful.
