A warehouseman is responsible for the organization and management of a warehouse. They oversee the receiving, storing, and shipping of inventory and ensure that all activities are carried out in a safe and efficient manner.
Warehouseman job duties include:
- Receives, stores, and distributes materials, tools, equipment, and products within warehouses, using hand trucks, conveyors, or other material handling equipment.
- Fills requisitions and orders.
- Weighs and counts items for distribution to ensure conformance to company standards.
- Stacks and stores items in proper storage areas.
- Rears for stock.
- Maintains inventory records.
- Cleans warehouse area and equipment.
- May operate forklift or other power equipment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Warehouseman Job Requirements
There are no formal education requirements for warehousemen, although some employers may prefer candidates with a high school diploma or equivalent. Certification is not required, but completing a certificate program or apprenticeship in warehousing can give candidates an advantage when applying for jobs. Employers typically require warehousemen to have at least one year of experience working in a warehouse environment.
