What does a GSE Mechanic do?

A GSE Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance and repair of ground support equipment. This may include aircraft tugs, belt loaders, and other equipment used to support aircraft operations. The mechanic will use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot and repair equipment. They must be able to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
GSE Mechanic job duties include:
- Inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, and performs maintenance on ground support equipment.
- Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
- Uses diagnostic tools and testing equipment to identify mechanical problems and their root causes.
- Replaces worn or broken parts, such as gaskets, seals, hoses, and filters.
- Adjusts and calibrates equipment according to specifications.
- Lubricates moving parts to reduce friction and prevent excessive wear.
- Keeps records of maintenance performed and repairs made.
- Requests replacement parts or tools as needed.
- Follows all safety procedures when working with tools and equipment.
GSE Mechanic Job Requirements
A GSE Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing ground support equipment. They must have a high school diploma or equivalent, and must be certified by the Federal Aviation Administration. They must also have at least two years of experience in aviation maintenance.
