A building and construction worker is someone who is responsible for the construction and maintenance of buildings and other structures. They may also be involved in the demolition of old buildings.
Building & Construction job duties include:
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements
- Prepare cost estimates for materials, equipment and labor
- Plan layouts, install fixtures and finishes, and reassemble areas
- Inspect work progress, equipment and construction sites to verify safety and ensure that standards are met
- Operate power tools, hand tools and other equipment to cut, shape and form material
- Erect scaffolding, shoring and braces to provide support during construction
- Remove debris and trash at construction sites
- Direct or assist workers in the installation of systems such as plumbing, electrical wiring or sheetrock
- Perform general maintenance tasks on construction equipment and machinery
Building & Construction Job Requirements
There are many job requirements for those in the building and construction industry. Firstly, it is important to have a good level of education, preferably in a related field such as engineering or architecture.
